Islamabad - The emergency and disaster management (E&DM) of Capital Development Authority (CDA) is fully prepared to timely cope with any untoward incident and would also be improved, strengthened and further upgraded, Member Environment, Syed Mustafain Kazmi said on Tuesday.

Talking to APP, he said that firemen and rescue staff of E&DM would be trained on modern lines, and would be equipped with latest fire tenders and other fire fighting devices to ensure maximum safety in the federal capital.

He said the emergency and disasters management, in a quick response, controlled the fire, which was erupted in Sir Syed Memorial Hall in Sector G-5 last week.

Twelve people stuck up in the building, were also been rescued safely.

Chairman CDA Maroof Afzal had lauded the performance of firemen and rescuers for timely extinguishing the fire and rescuing the lives of 12 people.

The member environment directed the management for implementation of standard operating procedure (SOP) regarding fire fighting and life safety training of firemen and rescue staff in line with modern techniques and repair and maintenance of existing fire vehicles. He said that fire fighting teams have been constituted to cope with any fire incident in Margallah Hills National Park Area while fire check posts have also been established. He said that these teams are in constant liaison with Environment and E&DM to control major fire incidents in Margallah Hills.
