ISLAMABAD - President Mamnoon Hussain Tuesday summoned the National Assembly to meet on Thursday (tomorrow) at 04:00pm at the Parliament House.

In line with the advice of the prime minister, the president approved the summary initiated by ministry of parliamentary affairs and signed the summoning of the next session of the National Assembly. The government, which earlier thought to call the next session of the National Assembly after January 4, has decided to call it earlier because of legislation it requires to implement anti-terrorism National Action Plan in letter and spirit to purge the country of extremism and terrorism.

The government had evolved a 20-pioint National Action Plan after consensus in the light of recommendations by various parliamentary parties that included establishment of military courts to punish the hardened terrorists. Prime Minister Sharif had lifted moratorium on death penalty following the horrendous terrorist attack on Army Public School Peshawar on 16 December in which 150 people died, majority of them were schoolchildren.
