Islamabad -  The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Friday cancelled a contract for provision of furniture to the Parliament Lodges awarded by the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

A single bench of IHC comprising Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui cancelled the contract by declaring the award of contract against Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) rules.

The CDA had awarded the contract to a private firm but another private firm Burhan Kundi Furniture had challenged the award of contract while calling it in violation of PPRA rules.

While cancelling the contract, the IHC bench directed the CDA to re-award the contract in a transparent manner and in compliance with PPRA rules.

On this occasion, Justice Siddiqui also expressed his anger over the state-of-affairs in CDA and observed that the Authority has been making appointments and transfers under the pressure of deputy speaker National Assembly.

He further added that higher authorities were selling posts in CDA and the prime minister should take serious note of the situation. He continued that if court took action, number of people would become ineligible in the civic body.
