Rawalpindi - A five-member dacoits gang revealed to police during investigation that they had sold out to two jewellers in Sadiqabad, reliable sources disclosed to The Nation on Thursday.

“The police have been overlooking the revelations of the dacoits gang and are not making the accused jewelers as part of investigation apparently after taking bribe from them,” sources added.

According to sources, Police Station (PS) New Town officials had arrested a five-member gang “Fani Gang,” including the gang leader for their alleged involvement in a series of dacoities and snatching of other valuables on gunpoint in the areas of New Town. During interrogation, the gang members had confessed committing of more than 50 crimes ranging from snatching gold ornaments from ladies to purse, mobile and other looting incidents.

They had also told the investigators that they had sold out all the stolen gold to two jewellers in Sadiqabad at throwaway prices, sources said, adding that police had not arrested or included the names of the two goldsmiths in investigation. They alleged the investigators had pocketed bribe from the accused jewellers in a bid to give them a clean chit.

Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Tahir Ejaz, however, when contacted confirmed that police had busted a dacoits gang by arresting its five members, including the ring leader. They identified as Farhan alias Fani (gang leader), Zaraq Khan, Latif Shah, Ghulam Akbar and Khitab, all hails from Rawalpindi.

He admitted that the gang members revealed during probe that they had given the stolen gold to two jewelers but police did not arrest the said jewelers. “It is a habit of robbers and dacoits to point fingers at many people in police custody but police cannot act upon their revelations and arrest the people whom they sold looted stuff,” ASI Tahir Ejaz said.

He said that they accused were sent to Adiala Jail for identification parade and he would obtain their physical remand once their parade would be ended. CPO was not available for his comments.
