Complete strike was observed for second consecutive day on Thursday by Powerlooms workers in protest against the non-payment of wages as fixed by the government.

The protesting workers took out a rally which started from grain market and the participants marched through Shorkot Road and Rajana Road. They staged a sit-in on Rajana Road, blocking the road for all kind of traffic.

On the occasion, Awami Workers Party (AWP) district president Muhammad Zubair and textile powerlooms and garments workers union president Muhammad Shabbir demanded the government to fix the salary of industrial workers at Rs25,000. They also demanded binding the powerloom owners to pay wages to the workers as fixed by the administration.

SENTENCED TO DEATH: District and Sessions judge Muhammad Yar Wallana awarded on Thursday death sentence to Abdul Majeed, a resident of Chak 409/JB in the murder case of his wife. The court also ordered him to pay Rs400,000 as compensation heirs of the deceased. The convict had strangled to death his wife Saadia Bibi on Feb 22, 2014 over a domestic dispute.
