KARACHI - Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain has expressed serious concerns over the sharp increase in incidents of terrorism, street crime and extortion incidents.

He appealed to the public to form vigilance committees and install alarm systems in their localities to raise alarm in case of any emergency. Altaf said the situation had worsened significantly and the public would have to step forward for protecting their neighbourhood. He said positive results had been obtained in the areas where vigilance committees were formed on his appeal.

He further said that the vigilance committees should have the whistle being used by the scouts and the Civil Defence Department to give immediate alarm in case of robberies and other crimes.  Sometimes it becomes necessary to bear such additional burden for self-protection.
