LAHORE – In a late night development, the Punjab Government finally decided to withdraw the case registered against the PTI leaders and workers for violation of Section 144 of PPC in the wake of a volley of criticism from different quarters accusing the provincial government of following dual standards.

The Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif ordered Provincial Police Chief late on Friday to quash the FIR. The sources in the Punjab Government said that the Chief Minister expressed his displeasure over registration of the case against PTI leaders stating that holding rallies was the right of all political parties but the same should be kept within parameters of the law.

Earlier, the Punjab police on Friday had lodged a case against top PTI leadership including Makhdoom Javed Hashmi for violation of Section 144 of PPC while protesting on The Mall, hardly a day after when the PML-N lawmakers also held a protest but the law did not come into action that day.
