KARACHI - The Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi chief said on Friday that the US court’s verdict of 86-year imprisonment to Pakistan’s eminent scientist Dr Aafia Siddiqui proved that it was fully biased and had prejudice against the Muslims and Islam.

Mohammad Hussain Mehanti was addressing a huge protest rally in the metropolis on the issue of Dr Aafia’s imprisonment in the US.

JI Karachi General Secretary Naseem Siddiqui, Deputy Chief Nasarullah Shaji and Chief Patron of Palestine Foundation Muzaffar Ahmed Hashmi also addressed the rally.

The participants of the rally were holding placards inscribed with their demand of immediate release of Dr Aafia. They chanted slogans against the US administration, former president Pervez Musharraf and the PPP government and its allies.

Mehanti said that the problems that had inflicted the Muslims across the world were only due to the US designs. He added that the problems would not end but continue with their devastating impacts. He further said that the US court had sentenced Dr Aafia to 86-year on charges of lifting arms against the US troops. The charges were never proved and sole allegation was about lifting arms, not shooting any one.

The tenure of sentence on the basis of allegations could, if rightly proven, not go beyond 5-years but she was inflicted with 86 years of imprisonment. The entire situation was a sheer portrayal of biased American justice system that proved it was totally against the Muslims and Islam. He paid rich tribute to Dr Aafia and said that she had become a minaret of light for the Muslim youth and women as she did not compromise and stood courageously against all injustices and tyrannies. He said that Pakistani government had never raised the issue before any government including the US administration and the United Nations while the US had used all powers to get US spy Raymond Davis, who had murdered 2 Pakistani youths in the country.

Pakistani Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar and Ambassador to the US, Sherry Rehman were both women but they also failed to feel the pains of Dr Aafia and her children, he said. He also criticized Israel for barricading the participants of the Global March. The participants were from all countries of Asia and hailed from different religions including Hindus and Christians.

He flayed the government and its allies for ruining peace and harmony in the city. He said that the JI would continue with its struggle to seek riddance from the extortionists and target killers.
