PESHAWAR – The Directorate of Research and Development organised a dissemination seminar for its ‘Maternal and Newborn Health Programme - Research and Advocacy Fund’ funded research project titled ‘Assessment of Community Participation in the Community Midwives Programme’ at Khyber Medical University, Peshawar.

Vice Chancellor KMU Prof Dr Mohammad Hafizullah extended a warm welcome to the participants including the chief guest Minister of Health, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Syed Zahir Ali Shah, the Secretary of IT Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Director General Health Services Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Director General Population Welfare, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, representatives of Research Advocacy Fund (RAF), EDO Health from all districts of the province, faculty members of medical colleges and health researchers. He also briefed the participants about the steps KMU has taken regarding the betterment of medical education and research.

The project report was presented to the key stakeholders and a presentation of the same was done by Dr Taslim Akhtar Consultant R&D KMU, Dr Shabina Raza Chief Health Sector Research Unit and Dr Zohaib Khan Asst Dir R&D KMU, who were the investigators for this project. The Minister for Health during his address lauded the efforts of Khyber Medical University for playing a leading role in research in the province and paving the way for future researches. He emphasised upon the importance of research and committed that research would be a main component of the health system, once the restructuring process of the system is completed.

The DG (Health), Secretary IT and the DG (Population Welfare) during their respective addresses also appreciated the efforts of KMU and emphasized on the importance of research for improvement of maternal and child health in the country. The seminar also included a panel discussion on recommendations from the project and how they may be implemented. Souvenirs and certificates were distributed among the panel members and the project team at the end.
