SADIQABAD - Raees Mehboob, a PPP central leader from Rahim Yar Khan, has quit the party and jumped on the PML-N bandwagon because of being denied a PPP ticket for NA-197.

Earlier, the former chairman of the District Council was interviewed by the PPP's Parliamentary Board in Zardari House Islamabad in connection with awarding of party ticket for the National Assembly seat in Sadiqabad. However, the PPP board awarded the party ticket to Punjab governor's son Murtaza Mehmood for the constituency.

Having been disappointed, Raees Mehboob decided to quit the PPP and met with PML-N leader Zulfiqar Ali Khosa at Raiwind, Lahore and informed the PML-N leader about his decision. Later, Mr Mehboob along with Mr Khosa called on party chief Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif and formally announced his decision to join the PML-N.

Mehboob was PML-Q candidate for NA-197 constituency in 2002 general elections but because of having a fake BA degree, he was declared disqualified and his nomination papers were rejected. In 2008, he was PPP candidate for the same slot but faced the same fate because of the same reason of fake degree. Similarly this time, he was aspirant of the PPP ticket to contest an election from the constituency but he was denied perhaps because of his previous record and also due to the influence of Governor Punjab Makhdoom Ahmad Mehmood whose son succeeded in getting the PPP ticket.

A few days earlier, Mr Mehboob had said talking to the media in Sadiqabad Press Club that he attended Benazir Bhutto's funeral and would not quit the PPP even if he was denied the party ticket. But now he has reneged on his pledge because of being denied the party ticket.
