ISLAMABAD  - Cyber attacks on the website of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) have been foiled but the website itself has been shutdown deliberately to avoid further attacks.IT Director General Khizar Aziz at the ECP said Asian and Russian hackers launched attacks on the website but these were foiled, adding all the data of the Election Commission, posted on the website, is safe. “Had our host server was based in Pakistan, then there could have been immense loss,” he said, adding the ECP host server is based in Canada, which is now being transferred to more secure server. Khizer Aziz said ECP’s website has been shut down under a deliberate strategy to avoid further attacks during the transition period.It may be mentioned that ECP website carries all the crucial data with regard to upcoming general elections in May. “It is like war. When you are attacked you displace yourself for sometime and then come back after diluting it,” another official added.
