ISLAMABAD - Riffat Khan and Zoya Khalid advanced in the Second Safari Women National Squash Championship final here on Saturday at Behria Town Squash Complex.

Riffat was in tremendous knick as she completely dominated her vastly experienced opponent and hot favourite Rushna Mehboob 3-1 in the first semi-final. The first game was like a see saw battle as both the players fought for every point before Riffat finally prevailed and took the game 12-10. The second game was identical to the first one as the struggle for supremacy continued but Riffat once again managed to take the game 13-11. Rushna then showed her class and won the third game 11-8. But Riffat was in no mood to let Roshna off the hook as she bounced back to take the fourth game 11-6 to win the game.

Talking to The Nation, Riffat said: “The hard work of Pakistan head coach Jamshed Gul has really paid dividend for me, as now I feel much different player altogether. One-month training with top male players at Mushaf Ali Mir Squash Complex has transformed us all.”

In the second semi-final, Zoya Khaild of ZTBL beat Saima Shaukat in straight games winning the match 11-8, 11-1, 11-6.

Talking to this scribe, Zoya said: “Saima is a very good player and we are playing against each other since long. Though she played well but I used my skills to not only reply her well but also managed a victory against her.” Talking about her final’s rival Riffat, Zoya said: “Riffat is a skilled player and the final will be an interesting one. I will not relax at all and will take her very seriously. I am quite confident I will repeat same performance against her and clinch the final title.”
