Our Staff reporter BAHAWALNAGAR - The DPO has suspended two policemen including an SI and ASI for allegedly torturing an elderly man to death and has ordered registration of case against them. According to application submitted by complainant that the Haroonabad Police conducted a raid at their house and started beating the inmates. Meanwhile, 75-year-old Mukhtar got a blow of the club on his head and breathed his last on the spot. On the other hand, Haroonabad City Police SHO Shahzeb Khan contradicted any such raid, saying the police had not raided the house of the deceased. The family of deceased Mukhtar has a long criminal record as his daughter Rani alias Pholan Devi has been involved in more than dozen cases including drug peddling, dacoity, theft and abduction cases, and wanted to malign police by levelling fake allegations, the SHO claimed. He argued that the medico-legal and autopsy report issued by the Bahawalnagar DHQ Medical Board had declared the death of Mukhtar due to brain haemorrhage. Meanwhile, relatives of the deceased staged a demo against the police officials. The DPO took strong exception to the incident and ordered suspension of Sub-Inspector Niaz Ahmad and ASI Nauman and ordered registration of a case against them along with a Mobile Shop owner Zafar Chandio. The Haroonabad City Police have registered a case under sections 302 PPC against them.
