Our Staff reporter SIALKOT - Federal Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has underlined the need for forging unity among the ranks for safeguarding geo-political fronts of the country. She was addressing a gathering after Quran Khawani held for the departed soul of Madar-e-Jamhooriat Begum Nusrat Bhutto held at Pakistan Television Bureau Sialkot Sunday afternoon. Dr Firdous said that at this critical juncture political parties should demonstrate political maturity and work collectively for the betterment of the country and protection of democracy. Attempts to derail democracy would be detrimental for political stability and would weaken Pakistan, she claimed, adding that the government was ready to take on board the opposition for serving masses in a better way and work together for making Pakistan a strong country. Attempts to weaken Pakistan through negative activities will not be tolerated, the minister warned. She said that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) believes in democratic norms and wanted to resolve all issues democratically. No one should consider the policy of reconciliation as weakness of the PPP, she elaborated. The minister said that President Asif Zardari was the symbol of federation and the PPP had strong roots among the masses of all provinces including the Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Dr Firdous said that the PPP had rendered great scarifies for the cause of democracy and would continue its strenuous efforts to strengthen the country democratically which was the mission of its founding chairman Shaheed ZA Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. All conspiracies and attempts to derail the democratic process will be foiled with the active support of the masses, she said and added that opposition could also serve the people in a better way while sitting in opposition. The minister alleged that Punjab Chief Minister misused the government machinery and public funds for staging a Comedy Show, adding that the Punjab CM should apology the nation for negating the constitution. Paying rich tribute to Madar-e-Jamhooriat Begum Nusrat Bhutto, she said that foundation for the free access to information and law was laid by the courageous lady who stood against tyranny of martial law regime of Ziaul Haq. Dr Firdous further added that scarifies of Begum Nusrat Bhutto for restoration democracy and protection of women rights were a source of inspiration for every Pakistani women.
