PESHAWAR - Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information and Culture Mian Iftikhar Hussain has stressed need for promotion of culture, saying that culture is a vast subject and cannot be restricted to a particular field. He said culture covered all aspects of life, adding that there was a need for exploring resources for its promotion. He directed the authorities concerned to make maximum efforts to explore resources for promotion of culture and also seek the help of donors in this regard. This, he said, while talking to a joint delegation of Cultural Journalists Forum and artists led by Ehtisham Toru at Peshawar on Sunday. Secretary Culture and Information Azmat Hanif Orakzai and Director Culture Pervez Khan were also present at the occasion. Other members of the delegation were Rokhan Khan Yousafzai, Bakhtiar Khattak, Jemshed Ali Khan, Humayun Khan, Khalid Khattak, Amjad Hadi Yousfazi, Sajjad Khalil, Amjad Ali Khadim and Inayat ur Rehman. Mian Iftikhar said the culture could not be separated from religion, as there was no clash between their religion and culture. He said it was why Islam was spread throughout the world within no time. He added that culture provided a base to the nation to go ahead and that was the reason that first of all the culture of opponents were targeted by the enemies and so was the case with the Pakhtun region particularly Afghanistan. He added that unfortunately their rich culture was intentionally harmed in the name of religion or ideology. The minister reiterated that the people related to culture were their assets and the government would give them their due status and respect. He further said that for the purpose, the provincial government started special programs in honour of the legendary people. He continued that the government was intending to establish cultural contacts with Iran, Turkey and Afghanistan including the neighbouring countries and cultural delegations would be exchanged. The minister, appreciating the special programs on the life of Pashto film legendary Badar Munir jointly arranged by the Culture Department and Cultural Journalists Forum, directed for arranging such programmes on the legendary Pashto actress Yasmin Khan and legendary singer Gulnar Begum also. He said that programmes in honour of the living legends would also be launched under the title 'Aitraf, adding that competitions and workshops would be arranged in the fields of music, drama and literature. Mian Iftikhar urged the people related to culture to register themselves with the culture department at the earliest so as to form their elected body. He clarified that only registered people would be eligible for vote in setting up of the said body.
