President Arif Alvi, present with Railway Minister Sheikh Rasheed, inaugurated a local train service on Wednesday in Karachi, which the general public would be able to use from November 1.

The cost of the train ticket would be between Rs25 to Rs80, according to the Railway administration. The local train will depart from City Station at 7 am and 5:45 pm, and go through seven stations including Drigh Road, Malir City, Landhi etc.

President Arif Alvi also addressed the inauguration ceremony, where he congratulated Sheikh Rasheed on the successful launching of the local train. The president said that Karachi faced the issue of lack of transport and the local railway service had ended a long while ago.

The president also underscored the need for the inclusion of private sector for development of Pakistan Railways. He said that during his recent visit to Turkey, the Turkish private sector has shown a great interest in the private-public ventures with Pakistan.

He added by saying that a number of aspects of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor were related with Pakistan Railways and "We need to work harder for the development of the department." He asked the Federal Railway Minister Sheikh Rashid, who is to visit China with Prime Minister to deliberate on new railway initiatives for the uplifting of railways.

He said that trains are among the basic means of transport around the world. Meanwhile, federal minister Sheikh Rasheed said that railways and people associated with it are crucially important to the country’s economy. He said that the local train service has been inaugurated upon the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
